Experiential Therapy
Experiential therapy encompasses a collection of action-methods that use imagery, role-playing, and movement in the therapeutic environment to help build insight and provide a new experience of perspective. Rather than to solve problems, these techniques were developed with intention to understand rather than fix.
To be experiential is to learn based on experience and observation. Creating space for non-judgmental observation is a key component of experiential therapy that can widen perspective and increase space for compassion.
I incorporate psychodrama, Gestalt, and sculpting techniques into the experiential work I do, when appropriate.
